The meteoric rise of Large Language Models (LLMs) like ChatGPT has kickstarted a new era in computing, wherein answers to even the most obscure questions are right at our fingertips. Advancements in LLMs have, in particular, opened up an entire new world of possibilities in the medical field. LLMs are now being used to answer complex medical questions about patients' electronic health records, enabling clinicians to focus on identifying the best treatment paths for their patients. In this lecture, we'll skim the surface of how LLMs work and discuss how they can be applied in the biomedical and data science domains.

Anna Baglione (Spears) earned her PhD in Systems Engineering from UVA in 2022. Her graduate work focused on applying supervised machine learning methods to novel challenges in mobile health (mHealth). Anna is currently a Data Scientist at Stanson Health (Premier Inc), where she uses Large Language Models and traditional supervised models to optimize patient care. She previously worked at Evolent Health, where she built supervised models for medical risk prediction. Outside of her work as a data scientist, Anna enjoys exploring the Charlottesville bookstore scene with her husband, Tyler, and spending time with her cat, Benny.
