After the Research: Using Policy, Advocacy, and Philanthropy as Levers to Address the Consequences of COVID-19

Panorama Group is a platform for social change. Their community of organizations develop scalable solutions to some of the world's most pressing challenges. A team from Panorama will speak about their work to alleviate secondary effects of COVID-19 by mobilizing networks of partners, shaping policies, and advocating for resources and systems changes, and the role that data science plays in achieving global public health impact.

2023 BDSIL Mentor Julia Roper is a Senior Program Officer at Panorama Strategy, a social impact consultancy. She works with clients ranging from biotech companies, philanthropies, and multilateral agencies to advance their health strategies, especially pertaining to policy, program design, advocacy, and partnerships. Previously in her career, Julia worked with governments in Africa and Asia to adopt and rollout new innovations relating to immunization and to improve health service delivery systems. She has served on several advisory committees in support of global health policy work, including engagements alongside WHO, UNICEF, Gavi, and other global leaders.

Autumn Lerner is Pandemic Action Network’s Senior Director. She is an accomplished global communications leader with nearly 20 years’ experience at the intersection of social impact program leadership, cross-cultural management, integrated campaigns, and community engagement. Her work has involved strategic communications, advocacy, and delivery in 30+ countries and required extremely adept skills in building partnerships, managing stakeholders, and influencing across markets and sectors. Before joining the Network, she was a Social Impact practice lead for global PR agency Weber Shandwick, where she drove integrated communications strategy for leading philanthropic and corporate impact partners around the world.

Darcy Sawatzki: Infectious enthusiasm. Palpable passion. And an uncanny knack for moving even the most challenging projects forward at a remarkable pace. Named a 2020 Top Woman in PR by PR News, Darcy has a 23-year track record of success in health communications, public-private partnerships, social marketing, campaign development, and media relations. At Evoke Kyne, Darcy provides senior strategic counsel across the firm's portfolio of public health clients. She currently leads behavior change communications for the Pandemic Action Network and provides strategic counsel to Hopelab, NFID, Goodbye Malaria, Lupus Therapeutics, and American Bone Health. Darcy brought to Evoke Kyne 18 years of experience leading federal government health communications contracts, from her role as SVP at a DC-based agency. Past clients include CDC Zika response, HHS Office on Women’s Health, the Annie E. Casey Foundation, and various National Institutes of Health.

As Vice President, Partnerships, Jennifer Cho leads Panorama’s collaboration with philanthropists, philanthropic organizations, and strategic partners on diverse opportunities for impact. Jennifer has more than 20 years of experience in nonprofit development with dynamic, high-impact organizations. Prior to joining Panorama, she served as director of development for two successive startup divisions of New York University, where over 9 years, she facilitated a number of complex fundraising projects to secure collaborative philanthropic and sponsored research commitments. Jennifer was previously part of the startup teams for Malaria No More and Millennium Promise/the Millennium Villages Project, where she managed multimillion-dollar fundraising campaigns and high-profile events for programs in support of the Millennium Development Goals. Her past experience includes leadership fundraising and management positions with Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, The CityKids Foundation, New York Cares, and Jersey Cares. She is a graduate of Princeton University.
