"The inaugural UVA–IMT Workshop on 'Artificial Intelligence, Its Applications, and Global Impact' successfully brought together faculty and doctoral students from around the University of Virginia and IMT Scuola Alti Studi Lucca for an intensive week of interdisciplinary collaboration. Participants formed international, multidisciplinary teams that combined expertise spanning artificial intelligence, machine learning, neuroscience, engineering, economics, public policy, ethics, media studies, and the social sciences. Through facilitated discussions, lightning presentations, and collaborative working sessions, the teams identified emerging challenges and opportunities in AI while developing scholarly projects focused on AI policy, responsible innovation, domain-specific applications, ethical frameworks, and future research directions. The workshop culminated in the production of draft book chapters which now form the foundation of a forthcoming published volume. Beyond these tangible scholarly products, the workshop established lasting research partnerships between UVA and IMT investigators, generated plans for future joint grant proposals and student exchanges, which demonstrate the value of sustained international collaboration in addressing the scientific, technological, and societal opportunities presented by the next generation of AI.  We could not be more pleased with how this turned out!"
